Helpful Tips
Download the Bis-Man Transit app to watch fixed-route buses move in real time and map your next connection at the downtown transit center. It is free. It is fast. Use it before you leave the hotel.
Capital Area Transit Route 1 runs from the airport to downtown Bismarck every hour on weekdays. Grab a budget-friendly day pass right on the bus. Cash works. Simple.
Taxi and rideshare pick-up at Bismarck Municipal Airport happens on the curb outside baggage claim. Wait times are shortest at Carousel 1. Head there first.
Hotel shuttles to downtown and the state capitol leave from the north side of the terminal. Confirm your ride at the ground transportation desk inside. Do not skip this step.
Common Scams to Avoid
Taxi drivers at Bismarck Municipal Airport sometimes claim the meter is 'broken' and quote inflated flat rates to downtown or hotels. Verify the meter is running before departure or use ride-hailing apps where pricing is transparent.
Some off-airport parking shuttles have been reported to tack on unexpected 'fuel surcharges' or 'late night fees' that weren't disclosed during online booking. Ask for a full fare breakdown before boarding and keep your reservation confirmation handy.
Rental car counters occasionally pressure travelers to upgrade to larger vehicles or add insurance coverage by exaggerating North Dakota winter driving risks even during mild weather. Politely decline extras you didn't pre-book and confirm your existing auto insurance or credit card coverage before traveling.
